The technicians are not trained to deal with customers; this is where the service advisor comes into play. They communicate between the technicians and the customer in a language both parties can understand.

The service advisors are usually paid very well and outlook is good for this field of work. Service advisors are in every dealership that does repairs and in small repair shops. Motor trade service advisors can decided when to give a discount to the customer. They also are trained salesmen and can sell you other services that you might not have gone to the dealership for.

They can hassle you to get services that they “feel” you need and you can end up spending way more money than you ever expected. They are usually very good at their jobs and advancement is given to those who succeed as advisors. The pay is good and technicians that advanced from the repair shop usually move up to being service advisors. This can be a good career to someone in the motor trade already and is looking to advance in the company that they work for.  Motor trade service advisors deal with customers, warranty departments, and the repair shop on a daily basis and need good communication and organization skills.
